We’re almost at the finish line of IEM Chengdu 2024 now, with the conclusion of the Semi-Finals. It’s been another cracking day of Counter-Strike, with a bunch of interesting storylines to follow alongside an incredible crowd on China’s big stage.
With MOUZ vs. G2 and Astralis vs. FaZe Clan playing for a spot in the Grand Final of IEM Chengdu 2024, it was always going to be a ton of fun – let’s take a look what actually happened on the server!
MOUZ overcome past Playoff woes
The big question mark over this MOUZ roster has consistently been their ability to perform on the big stage. It’s a point that they well and truly answered at IEM Chengdu 2024, beating G2 2:1 to take revenge from the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024, as well as secure their first Grand Final spot since CS Asia Championships 2023, when frozen was still on the roster.
This time, it was heroic performances all around for MOUZ. Jimpphat was composed beyond his years, xertioN was back in the form we expect of him, and torzsi had tons of impact when picking up the AWP. They may go into the Grand Final as underdogs, but that could suit MOUZ just fine in Chengdu.
FaZe reach yet another CS2 Grand Final
If FaZe Clan felt they were still feeling any kind of post-Major hangover at IEM Chengdu 2024, they certainly didn’t show it in the Semi-Finals. It was a huge day on the big stage, as FaZe overcame a seemingly invincible Astralis side 2:1 to reach their eighth Grand Final in CS2.
While karrigan‘s improved individual form was notable, again, it was the rest of his stars who stepped up to help carry FaZe over the line, with broky and rain going lights-out across the series. Now, a Grand Final with MOUZ awaits, and they’ll feel they’re big favorites to lift yet another trophy in CS2. On the Astralis side, reaching the Semi-Finals in the debut of this lineup isn’t a bad performance overall. For now, it’s back to the drawing board to iron out those small issues on the server.
