The Los Angeles Dodgers have made a roster move just ahead of their series opener against the Minnesota Twins on Monday. The team activated right-handed pitcher Connor Brogdon, and optioned right-handed pitcher Gus Varland to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Brogdon, 29, was acquired in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies over the weekend. He made three appearances with the Phillies this season, allowing six earned runs in two innings of work.
Brogdon has a career ERA of 3.88 across 142 appearances and 144 innings at the MLB level. He’s spent his entire professional career with the Phillies after debuting in 2020.
Brogdon will get a chance to make a positive impact on the Dodgers’ bullpen, one that has already seen tons of movement over the first couple weeks of the season.
He’s replacing Varland, who’s made two appearances this season, both times recording just one out. The first one came in Korea against the San Diego Padres, and the second one came on Sunday against the Chicago Cubs, where he allowed one earned run.
James Paxton is taking the mound for the Dodgers on Monday after pitching five shutout innings in his first start of the season last week. First pitch is set for 4:40 p.m. PT.
