You start with a basic spaceship, which you can name, and a basic warrior; you can also equip weapons of your choice to help you in battle. Then, you select a world to visit and a mission to undertake. Then, you are sent as a Helldiver to spread peace, prosperity, and some violence to every planet you encounter.

As you impart lessons of militarized democracy to each planet you visit, you will also be tasked with completing missions like eradicating alien nests, uploading data, or surviving waves of enemies. Each mission has its own set of side objectives, which you must complete to achieve a five-star rank and earn the best rewards.

Like the original Helldivers, the sequel focuses mostly on co-op gameplay, working with your squad to defeat the enemies. Not only does a complete squad make surviving missions more possible, but the game has a lot of funny moments and interactions between you and your teammates. You could also enable friendly fire and “accidentally” kill your teammates or watch your teammate die to their orbital strike.

Although the sequel is marketed as a PS5 exclusive, the game is also out on PC. It’s now one of the first PlayStation titles to be released on both platforms simultaneously. With Helldivers 2 crossplay, PS5 and PC players can collaborate and liberate planets.

Helldivers 2 is a PlayStation exclusive, yet isn’t priced similarly to other PS5 titles such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, or Rise of the Ronin. Instead, Arrowhead Game Studio’s co-op shooter is priced at $39.99, with the premium edition; “Helldivers 2 Super Citizen Edition”, costing $59.99, making it arguably the cheapest PS5 exclusive to date.

Is Helldivers 2 Super Citizen Edition Worth the Extra Bucks?

Like recent PlayStation exclusives, Helldivers 2 has multiple editions, including the standard and Super Citizen editions. Let’s look at a breakdown of all the details of all editions, in-game bonuses, and whether the investment in the Super Citizen Edition is worthwhile.

The Helldivers 2 Standard Edition costs $40 and contains only the base game. Helldivers 2 Super Citizen Edition costs $60 and contains the base game, “DP-53 Savior of the Free” armor set, “Will of the People” cape, “MP-98 Knight” weapon, “Super Citizen” status, Stratagem Hero Ship game, and “Steeled Veterans” Premium war bond.
