Sporting power couple Madi Wilson and Matt Short have announced they are expecting their first child together.

The Adelaide-based pair shared the happy news in a joint video on Instagram that was captioned: “2 becomes 3. What a journey ours has been, we are excited to announce we are expecting our rainbow baby in 2024.

“It has been a whirlwind 12 months and we are so excited for what the future holds.”

The couple announced their engagement in October last year after going public with their relationship at last year’s Allan Border Medal.

Wilson and Short stepped out together again at Wednesday night’s AB Medal. They captioned a photo from the event “Mum & Dad”.

Several Aussie swimming stars offered their congratulations to the happy couple.

Ariarne Titmus commented on Instagram: “You’re glowing! So happy for you.”

Cate Campbell said: “I love everything about this!!”

Mollie O’Callaghan said: “Congratulations you’re going to be an amazing mum.”

Swimming star Wilson, 29, is one of the longest serving members of the Australian Dolphins team over the last decade.

Short, 28, has won the past two Big Bash player of the year awards in recognition of his breakout seasons for the Adelaide Strikers.

He made his One Day International and T20 debuts for Australia last year and is set to open the batting in the limited overs series against the West Indies starting this weekend.

The happy pregnancy news means Wilson will likely miss out on selection for the Paris Olympics, which begins in late July.

The freestyler represented Australia and the Rio and Tokyo Games and is a current holder of five relay world records.

She has two golds, a silver and a bronze from the Olympics as well as a swag of international medals including three relay golds at last year’s world championships.

She likely could have added to that haul in Paris, such is the strength of Australia’s female freestyle ranks.

“I’ve got Adelaide to thank,” Short said as he accepted his cricket award on Monday.

“I’ve been there for five years now. The first few years didn’t go to plan but to be given the chance up the top of the order there, that’s where I thrive.”
