6:50PM: IPL ‘24 AUCTION IS UNDERWAY
We are off and running in Dubai, with all ten franchises in attendance to battle it out to get their hands on cricket’s biggest names.
The capped batters will be the first set of players available for auction.
Rovman Powell is the first player up for grabs, with Rajasthan and Kolkata going head to head for him.
Kolkata are VERY KEEN on him, not baulking whatsoever to bid back.
However, Rajasthan win the day, although the auctioneer was giving everyone ample chances.
Powell gets to the Royals for $1.39m AUD.
THE 21 AUSSIES CHASING SLICE OF IPL’S $47M-AUCTION PIE

Pat Cummins and his pace cartel headline the group of 21 Australians who will be anxiously awaiting the results of today’s IPL mini-auction (6:30pm AEDT).
Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc have all entered the auction with the maximum base price of INR 2 crore* ($358,000), as have Travis Head, Steve Smith, Josh Inglis and Sean Abbott.
At the other end of the base-price spectrum are Jake Fraser McGurk and bolter Will Salzmann, both listed at a base price of $36,000.Not all 21 Australians entered in the auction will finish the night happy, with 119 foreign players looking to fill the remaining 30 slots available to internationals – 50 of the 80 international slots were filled in the retention round by the 10 teams.

However, those that do find a home will be richly rewarded, with $47.2 million available to the 10 teams to fill the remainder of their squads.
They will join the 10 other Australians already locked in to play in this season’s IPL. Among that group, six are on deals worth more than $1m a season.
Cameron Green ($3.15m) and Glenn Maxwell ($2m) are the biggest earners in that group, and remarkably they’re both part of a Royal Challengers Bangalore squad that also features the high-earning Virat Kohli.
Of the eight teams, Matthew Wade’s Gujarat Titans have the most money to splash, with $6.8m of their transfer kitty still available. Coached by Justin Langer, the Super Giants have the least money left to spend with $2.36m.
Langer is one of three Australians coaching in this season’s IPL, with Ricky Ponting in charge of the Mumbai Indians ($3.18m remaining) and Trevor Bayliss with the Punjab Kings ($5.22m).
