Must C’s: Lamar Stevens doesn’t quit

Haven’t played meaningful minutes all year? No big deal.

Getting your first start of the season? OK.

Lamar Stevens came the Celtics this summer late in the offseason. He signed an Exhibit 10 in late September as a training camp invite and he won’t be fully guaranteed until January 10th. But after back-to-back games of impactful basketball, he’s making a case.

In the closing minute of Boston’s blowout of the Magic on Friday night, Stevens made sure that every second he was on the parquet floor counted.

On a night with multiple electric dunks from Jaylen Brown, it was Stevens that caught the eye of Celtics’ head coach Joe Mazzulla.

“It was one of my favorite plays of the game,” Mazzulla said after Stevens scored eight points and grabbed two steals in the win. “To me, it’s talk to the character of the locker room. It talks to the character of that group to just keep playing. I loved that he did that. It was great.”

And make sure to check out Jack Simone’s profile of Stevens from earlier in the year.
