Raptors Player Under Investigation for Placing Bets on Himself

Raptors forward Jontay Porter is being investigated by the NBA over “multiple instances of betting irregularities” in recent months, according to ESPN.

The league is looking into prop bets featuring Porter, the younger brother of Michael Porter Jr., from games on January 26 and March 20.

When the Raptors played the Clippers on January 26, there was “increased betting interest” on the “under” for Porter’s props, which were set at 5.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.5 three-point makes, according to the report.

He left the game after playing just four minutes due to a “re-aggravation of an eye injury”. Porter finished with zero points, three rebounds and one assist. He did not attempt a three-pointer, meaning all four prop bets went under and won.

DraftKings then reported that the under on Porter’s 3-pointers was the most profitable win of any NBA player prop that night.

Two days later, he played 19 minutes and notched 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

But on March 20 against the Phoenix Suns, Porter played just three minutes before leaving the game due to “an illness” and did not return. He did not score, attempted only one shot (and missed it), attempted and grabbed just two rebounds, as the report points out.

His over/under line was 7.5 points and 5.5 rebounds. The following day, DraftKings again said Porter’s prop bets were the biggest money winner of the night.

Porter has spent the past two seasons in the G League and is currently on a two-way contract with the Raptors worth $415,000.

The NBA is yet to comment on the matter.
