For the most part, the Las Vegas Raiders have the pieces in place in the front office and coaching staff, so the attention now turns to the roster itself. Obviously, quarterback is the main focus, but there is also a big question regarding the future of Josh Jacobs.
Of course, Jacobs sat out all of training camp after being franchised last offseason after he led the NFL in rushing yards and was a First Team All-Pro in 2022. Jacobs didn’t see the same success in 2023 and also dealt with injuries, missing the final four games of the season, but it sounds as if the Raiders are hopeful to keep him around.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Raiders have interest in bringing Jacobs back, but only at the right price:
The Las Vegas Raiders have interest in bringing back running back Josh Jacobs, depending on the price. Jacobs was a topic during the team’s offensive coordinator interviews, and the Raiders need stability there because of the uncertain quarterback outlook. Speaking of that, the feeling is the Raiders like Aidan O’Connell but know they also need to add to the quarterback room.
As Fowler noted, the uncertainty of the Raiders’ quarterback position makes the running back spot that much more important. Jacobs is still one of the best running backs in the league, and his presence makes life easier for whoever the Raiders have under center next season.
But money will be the deciding factor on that as it was the issue last offseason. Jacobs’ plight last offseason sparked a conversation about the pay of running backs in general. It is unclear what kind of money he will be looking for this offseason and what level the Raiders are willing to go to in order for him to remain with the team.
Under Antonio Pierce, the Raiders want to establish the run as it opens up the rest of the offense and Jacobs has proven he can step up in the biggest games. Now it will be a matter of seeing if the two sides can come together to keep this relationship going.
Aaron Rodgers trying to recruit Raiders’ Davante Adams to the Jets
While Josh Jacobs is a free agent who may or may not return, star receiver Davante Adams is under contract, but that doesn’t mean other teams aren’t trying to pry him away from the Raiders.
The New York Jets tried to trade for Adams at the trade deadline, and his former teammate, Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, is reportedly still trying to recruit him to New York. The Raiders, however, have no desire to trade Adams away and, by all accounts, will be in silver and black next season.
